A few weeks before, Kevin was having a hard time sleeping on his side and felt a lot of discomfort under his rib cage on the left side. Didn’t really think anything of it. This was actually his enlarged spleen. Now, I’m going to take you back in time…

Loverman and I went to a hockey game to watch Lexie cheer. About half way through the game, he complained about “a REALLY bad headache”. I felt really bad, because people were blowing those crazy fog horn thingamajigs and it was even annoying me. I asked him if he thought he was ok to make it through the game and he said he could. Then I told him that he should really get his headaches checked because it seemed to me that he was getting them quite often.  He toughed out the headache until the end of the game then we got some ice cream and went home. When we got home, he took some acetaminophen and then we both went to bed and…. well you know…. slept like crazy! 😉

Loverman seemed to be ok first thing in the morning. I had an oil leak in my car that he planned to repair, so he did that and then spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon relaxing on the couch. I left the house to take Lexie to her dance classes. Then I went grocery shopping and picked up Lexie’s BFF so she could come to our house for a sleepover. When I got back home, loverman was complaining about a headache again. He took some more acetaminophen and then relaxed on the couch. I made tacos that night, a favorite meal in our home.  Loverman had one taco and then stopped eating. Normally, he would eat 3 or 4.

About an hour after dinner, loverman told me that he was not feeling so well and that he was going to try and sleep it off. So off he went to bed. About a half hour later, I heard him walking around upstairs. I asked him if he was ok and he said yes, but he wanted to take a bath.

A bath? I thought to myself.

Before that moment, he had NEVER taken a bath that I knew of. He’s a 6ft 4inch hunk of a man! I could not picture him being very comfortable in our tub. We have a deep tub, but otherwise the size is pretty standard. So yeah…. That was really super weird! However, I thought perhaps he was just a little achy and thought it would help. Nevertheless, I continued about my night. After he got out of the bath, I still heard lots of walking upstairs and eventually he came back downstairs fully dressed. It was approximately 11:30 PM.

Me: “Why are you dressed?”

Loverman: “Because, come outside I need to talk to you right now.”

So a bunch of craziness went through my head while I scrambled to get my shoes on and stepped outside onto our front porch.

Me: “What’s going on?” (I was afraid to ask)

Loverman: “I am going to the ER.”

He explained that he needed to go because of his headache, but also because he was having “man issues” (Priapism <– I won’t go into detail, but you can google this god-awful side effect.)

Me: “Well I want to go. I will take you.”

Loverman: “No, no. I am going by myself and I will call you if you need to come down.”

I do the same when I have to go to the ER so I didn’t really think anything of it.

After he left, I sent him a text message to let him know that if he needed me, I would go down to the ER immediately.
