Just a quickie update on my leukemia loverman. =) Not too much has changed since my last update. He is still experiencing yucky side effects from his cancer drug, Gleevec(Imatinib). So he is basically an achy nauseated weakling sleepy head most of the day. He does have spurts of energy and we try to get out of the house at least once a day to do some stuff, but he gets really tired REALLY quickly. We have also realized that he might be retaining a lot of water. This could be a serious side effect of this drug. He has gained almost 30lbs in less than 3 weeks. *shudder* So, either he is eating WAY too much chocolate (the only thing he says doesn’t taste like it’s laced with metal) OR he’s retaining A LOT of water.
I finally called the cancer clinic today and told them about the weight gain. His cancer nurse advised that he should probably be assessed by a doctor at the ER and have an ultrasound done. Do you think I could convince him to go? NOPE! I even had a little meltdown, but he said he didn’t want to go back there yet. He said he wanted to wait until his appointment at the cancer clinic on Wednesday because he thinks he could just be gaining weight from being less active and eating more junkie food. But then he also said that he is also afraid to go back there. I looked at him and told him that I can’t force him to do anything, BUT!!!! I would rather him tell me “I told you so!” than say “I wish I would have listened to you.”
If it is water retention (edema) and it gets too bad, they will have to take him off of the cancer drug until they get the edema under control and I’m pretty sure that will land him back into the hospital. I explained this to him hoping it would convince him, but still no.
His nurse comes to our house tomorrow. Last time she was here, she said he can only tell if he is retaining water in his legs, feet or his chest. She really can’t tell if it’s in his belly. But his belly is very jiggly so I think it is in there. I don’t know. Maybe I’m worrying too much. But if he gains more weight by tomorrow morning, I will be putting my foot down! lol Or I will get the nurse to help me get him to go. We shall see. Trust me, if I have to drag him kicking and screaming, you will know it!
Thanks for stopping by!
