Today is DAY +12 and what a freakin’ fabulous day we had today weather wise! It was incredibly awesome! For update blood counts, please CLICK HERE.
So I have some good news and bad news.
First, the good… Kevin’s white blood cell (WBC) count is up a little bit more today! We have been told not to get TOO excited about it all, but as Kevin puts it, we are “cautiously optimistic”. His fever comes and goes, but the “big guns” antibiotics are working. His kidneys are a little angry with everything that’s going on, but he is now being hydrated by IV to see if that helps. He also didn’t need any transfusions or treatments today. Just his regular kajillion drugs that he must take daily, which at this stage include:
Olanzapine 1 tablet 2x daily (to manage “breakthrough” nausea)
Maxeran 2 tablets 4x daily (to manage nausea)
Benadryl 1/2 tablet 4x daily (to manage Maxeran side effects)
Fluconazole 4 tablets 1x daily (to manage/prevent fungal infections)
Acyclovir 1 table 2x daily (to manage/prevent viral infections)
Ursodiol 1 tablet 4x daily (to protect the liver)
Amlodipine 1 tablet daily (for high blood pressure)
Tacrolimus -adjusted dose taken 2x daily (immunosuppressive to prevent rejection)
Leucovorin – 1 tablet 4x daily (to prevent harmful effects of Methotextrate)
“Piptazo” Piperacillin/Tazobactam – IV over 1 hour every 6 hours (to manage/prevent infections)
Ativan – Taken as needed (to manage anxiety)
Hydromorophone – Taken as needed (to manage pain)
**The main reason I list all of the drugs is for other BMT patients/caregivers who follow this blog, but also so I have a record.
Some other good news, I got a COT this time!!!! Woooooweee! It doesn’t get any better than that for a caregiver in the BMT unit let me tell ya! I feel like I hit the jackpot! lol
Now for the bad news… Kevin was told that he might have to be admitted as an INpatient for at least 10 days. =( I’m cool with it because it takes a bit of anxiety off of me, but Kevin is already whining about how BORED he is! Like a doctor said before, “bored” is the new FUN, but I think I’m going to see if the pharmacy has any anti-whining pills. Hahaha!! Yeah, yeah, I know he has a very good reason to whine, BUT I have a very good reason to find the humor in it all! Bone marrow transplants are WAY too serious to be taken seriously all the time!
And that’s a WRAP for today! Hope you are all having an awesome week! Spring is just around the corner!!! =)
Thanks for stopping by!
