It’s DAY -6. Kevin had his last dose of high dose Busulfan chemo. To see updated blood counts, CLICK HERE.

10999985_10155241730620650_30375341394062399_nHe is a bit more nauseated today, but everything is being controlled by anti-nausea medications.

Speaking of medications, I said I would explain a bit more about the medications that he is taking now and why.

Ondansetron (Zofran) – He takes a dose twice a day to prevent nausea.

Dexamethasone (Decadron) – He takes a dose twice a day to prevent nausea.

Olanzapine (Zyprexa) – He takes a dose twice a day to prevent nausea.

Allopurinol (Zyloprim) – He takes one dose a day to protect the kidneys.

Ursodiol (Ursofalk) – He takes one dose four times daily to protect the liver.

Phenytoin (Dilantin) – He takes a high dose before bed daily to prevent seizures that can be caused by the Busulfan. (He stops taking this drug tonight.)

Metoclopramide (Maxeran) – He takes as needed for additional nausea.

Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) – He takes with the Maxeran to prevent Maxeran side effects.

Stemetil (Prochlorperazine) – He takes as needed for additional nausea, if needed after Maxeran.

Lorazepam (Ativan) – He takes as needed for anxiety and sleep.

Zopiclone (Imovane) – He takes as needed for sleep, but not with Ativan.

Soon they will add more medications to his regime and I will talk about those as we go along.

So, today was another relatively uneventful day so this blog will be short and sweet. Tomorrow is a “rest” from chemo day. Then Saturday the “fun” starts… as the doctors and nurses put it. Kevin’s parents and his brother are coming to help out. I will explain what the “fun” entails in my blog tomorrow, before it all starts. Thanks for stopping by!
