Our hot date at the Cancer Clinic was long, but good. The doctor thought it was cute that I compared these appointments to a “date night”, only they happen in the afternoon. 😉 All of Kevin’s CBC counts have improved slightly, which is all we can ask for at this point. But the results were good enough to avoid a blood transfusion! Yay! Also, they aren’t too concerned with the edema yet, but we have to watch his weight carefully.

The doc explained that they will not truly know how well he is responding to the treatment until they do molecular blood/DNA testing in a couple of months. He said it’s easy to get the white blood cells back to normal with the chemo drugs and that is a good thing, but it doesn’t mean that the chemo(TKI) is targeting the cancer in the cells. He said we should expect that it will take at least a year and a half for Kevin to reach a complete molecular response, which is as close to remission as they can achieve with his type/phase of cancer. That would mean that only 1 in 1000 cells are leukemia cells. As of now, the doctor said that all of his cells are leukemia cells, well 95-100%. So, he still has a long way to go! But that’s okay because we have already accepted and decided that CANCER is the new AWESOME. It has to be. As far as I’m concerned, it just makes my loverman and anyone else with leukemia bloody awesome! 😉

Thanks again to all of you for your amazing awesome support! It means more than you know and more than I could express with words!

As much as I have accepted the fact that the man I love with all of my heart and soul will have cancer running through his veins for the rest of his life, I can’t help but wish for a cure for ALL cancers! Now THAT would be SOOO incredibly awesome!
